How we test accuracy

How accurately the monitor will measure your blood pressure, when measured against our accuracy criteria based on three international standards. A monitor with five stars will meet our accuracy criteria with top marks, whereas a monitor with one star will not meet the criteria at all and can't be relied on for accuracy or consistency. A monitor with three stars is satisfactory but could score better on accuracy.

How we test time taken

How long it takes the monitor to measure your blood pressure. Monitors with three stars take 53 to 56 seconds. Those with five stars generally take around half this time.

Comfort

How we test comfort

How comfortable the monitor is to put on and use. This includes whether an arm monitor cuff squeezes the arm gently during inflation, rather than pinching or over-tightening, and whether a wrist monitor feels firmly placed without bulkiness or looseness.

Ease of use

How we test ease of use

How easy the monitor is to set up, program and use, including whether the display is easily read and error messages simple to understand, and how clear the instructions are to follow.
