This child car seat has passed the regulatory tests required by ECE R129/i-Size to be sold as suitable for children from 40-83cm, which is from birth to 15 months of age. But in our own tests, which are conducted at higher speeds and forces than the standard requires, this seat scores poorly for frontal-impact when used with the base and connected using Isofix. Due to movement between the shell and the base, the head of our crash test dummy went beyond the shell of the car seat, which in a real-life situation means that your child's head could make contact with the seat in front. Any car seat scoring 45% or less becomes a Which? Don't Buy.

The iPro Baby Set is made up of the Hauck iPro Baby car seat and Hauck iPro Base. The iPro Base can also be used with the Hauck iPro Kids car seat, which is the next step up from the iPro Baby. The iPro Baby is approved to the latest i-Size/R129 regulations, but we've made it a Don't Buy when used with the iPro Base due to the results from our crash tests, which indicate a relatively high injury risk in a front collision in this particular configuration. The overall safety score is made up of the results of crash testing (front crash; side crash) seat design, stability in the car and belt routing. Our crash tests go beyond the legal minimum requirements for UK car seat regulations and are conducted at higher speeds and forces than the regulations require. We feel our tests more accurately reflect what could happen in a real life crash.

Our experts conduct an ergonomic assessment of each seat to make sure your child will be in the best position when travelling, along with the level of padding and support.
