In our unique longevity and customer satisfaction survey, we've asked more than 15,614 people, including Which? members and members of the general public, to tell us whether they're happy with their fitness tracker, aka activity tracker, and if they've experienced problems, so you can see which brands are worth you investing in.

'Fitbit' is often used synonymously with 'fitness tracker' but Fitbit didn't come out as the brand with the highest customer satisfaction rating in our survey.

And, in fact, Fitbit and Honor were the fitness tracker brands most likely to develop faults within the six-year period covered by our survey. The most commonly reported problems for Fitbit fitness trackers were straps breaking, batteries getting drastically worse over time, it no longer synching with their linked smartphone and screen quality problems such as dead pixels or dark spots.

For Honor, the most common faults are synching, batteries deteriorating and control buttons no longer working or only working intermittently.

Fitness trackers were the product area that developed the most faults of all the tech areas in our survey. Some 22% of fitness tracker owners told us that their fitness tracker developed a fault within six years and 17% within just two years. And 9% of fitness trackers had to be repaired or replaced due to a fault within six years.

For fitness trackers as a whole, the most frequent faults are batteries getting poorer and straps breaking.

How we calculate the best and worst fitness tracker brands

Which? has a wealth of information on Britain's favourite brands. Every year, we ask Which? members to tell us about the tech they own, from how likely they would be to recommend a brand to how reliable the products are once they get them home.

This year, 15,614 people, including Which? members and members of the general public, told us about more than 54,567 products.

  • We calculate our customer score based on whether customers would recommend each brand and their level of satisfaction.
  • We also calculate which brand developed the most faults, which is based on how many faults each brand developed up to six years old.

Our surveys, combined with our extensive lab tests, mean that we can recommend the best tracker to buy. Find out more about how we test fitness trackers.
