Best mini choppers

Take the hard work out of preparing small amounts of chopped herbs, breadcrumbs, marinades, pestos, sauces and purées with some of the best mini choppers we've tested

A mini chopper being used

If you only need to do small amounts of chopping or puréeing, a mini chopper might suit you better than a food processor. They are smaller and less expensive versions of food processors and take up much less space. However, they are usually limited in what they can do.

We rigorously tested popular mini choppers and mini food processors from Cuisinart, Kenwood, KitchenAid, Magimix, Russell Hobbs and Ninja to see which ones make the perfect food prep gadget.

Our results showed that price is no indicator of quality when it comes to mini choppers – one of our Best Buys costs less than £20.

How we tested these mini choppers

To find these Best Buy mini choppers, we selected models that are widely available from stores including Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Very and more.

We put each of them through their paces by following a specifically designed test to find the very best machine. Below, you’ll see the breakdown of our test.

Performance

  • We test each mini chopper with nuts, onions and herbs to see how well they can chop different types of food. A strong mini chopper will consistently chop any ingredient – hard or soft – into fine, even pieces.
  • We also test how well mini choppers can purée baby food by checking whether the bowl or jug needs scraping down in order for all the ingredients to be puréed properly, and whether the purée is smooth and even.

Assembly and ease of use

  • To make sure you don't end up with a machine that's more hassle than it's worth, we take into account how simple each mini chopper is to assemble and use.
  • No one likes anything that’s too loud, so we listen to how much noise each model produces.
  • Attachments can be frustrating and fiddly, which is why we check how easy it is to fit and swap attachments.
  • Every mini chopper is tested on how easy it is to clean. This way you'll be aware of the clean-up job needed after each use.
