Which networks do virtual providers use?

The graphic below shows the four main networks – EE, O2, Three and Vodafone – and the virtual networks that use their infrastructure.

Why do mobile providers using the same network get different performance?

Our survey found that the most common issues mobile customers have are constantly poor phone signal and continuous brief network dropouts.

Averaged across the parent and piggyback networks, providers using Vodafone and EE infrastructure had the highest rating for network reliability.

Networks operating on Vodafone and Three were the highest for download speeds.

While these ratings are a useful guide, they’re also subjective. High satisfaction with the overall service could create a more positive opinion of the network’s technical performance.

Research has shown that virtual operators can provide different speeds from their host and sister networks, based on factors such as how many competing devices are using the network and different providers’ traffic-management strategies.

Try getting a cheap one-month Sim-only deal with a network you're considering, so you can test it out before you commit for longer.
