The Aico Ei146RC is a mains-powered smoke alarm, with a five-year warranty. It uses a standard 9V battery as a back-up power supply, so it will still work during a power cut. It detects smoke using an optical sensor, which the manufacturer says is best for detecting slow, smouldering fires in the home. It can be interlinked with other Aico alarms in your home (such as the Ei603RF, Ei144 and Ei3024 heat alarms) either through hardwiring or wirelessly using its RadioLink feature so that when one alarm sounds they all sound. This makes it suitable for homes in Scotland. But is it any good at raising the alarm when needed? To find out, we tested it. Read on for our full review.
