Don't Buy cameras not worth your money

The inferior wireless security cameras we find in our testing not only capture awful-quality video, but they're laborious to use and have limited features.

We've seen some models with flimsy build quality, insecure privacy settings, and a narrow field of view. Make sure you don't waste your money on a sub-par wireless security camera.

How much should I spend on a wireless security camera?

You can get a good quality indoor security camera for around £50. Spend a bit more if you like the brand or features on offer, or if you want to have multiple cameras monitoring different areas inside your home.

When it comes to outdoor security cameras, it is harder to find top quality models for under £100, but there are a few bargains around.

Again, you will need to spend a bit more to get multiple cameras that can all be used as part of the same system - say, to monitor a driveway and a back door.

Beware of additional subscription costs

Bear in mind when setting your budget that you might need to sign up to an additional subscription to get the best out of your camera.

You often need to pay to store video clips in the cloud in case you need to access them remotely, and features such as advanced notifications can also be locked behind a payment plan.

Video storage costs for wireless cameras (and other smart home devices) can rack up to more than £100 per year.
