How we test humidification capacity

We run each humidifier on its maximum setting for one hour starting at a relative humidity level of 35% and temperature of 27°C. We measure the relative humidity level at the end of the test and the volume of water used and create a star rating based on how much water is released into the atmosphere.

How we test quietness

Our expert lab testers measure the decibel levels for each humidifier on the lowest and highest setting, as well as giving a subjective rating on how noisy they think each dehumidifier is. They will flag if a device makes any strange sounds such as dripping or whining.

How we test ease of use

This star rating reflects a combination of different ease-of-use tests, including how simple it is to use the controls, understand the instructions, fill the water tank, and clean and descale the device, and whether it's stable when set up and easy to move the unit around.

How we test energy efficiency

During our humidity test, we measure the energy consumption of each humidifier. A less energy efficient humidifier will cost you more to run than a more energy efficient one.
