Who is Viking?

Viking is a Swiss-based cruise company specialising in small to medium adult-only ocean cruises; all of its ships – it currently has 12 – carry fewer than 1,000 guests. Its vessels travel worldwide to North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia.

What’s Viking like?

Viking is a consistently high performer in our surveys – and this year is no different, with it clinching an overall score of 87%. Customers told us they appreciate the 'classy, crowd-free' atmosphere, a step up from the rowdy bars, casinos and hard sell that you might expect from cheaper rivals. Instead, guests can wind down in the evenings with lecture theatres and jazz lounges. So it’s no surprise that Viking scored the full five stars for its social atmosphere.

Passengers particularly enjoyed the ‘excellent spa and fitness facilities at no extra charge’. Themed as a luxurious Nordic spa, it includes a dry sauna, steam room and cold plunge pool. 

The small size of the ships is also key to its appeal, with passengers praising personalised service from the crew, who were described as friendly, helpful and efficient. One happy customer commended the ‘excellent customer service from the minute you book until you get home’. Smaller ships also have the advantage of being able to visit harbours that are less crowded.
