Cicar is a budget car rental service operating on the Canary Islands, with a fleet of over 12,000 vehicles at its disposal. While it also offers rentals in mainland Spain, these are organised through a partner with different T&Cs attached.

What's Cicar like?

The two best car hire companies in our survey are competing for your custom on the Canaries - Cicar was joint top with local competitor AutoReisen. They both consistently impress year on year and numerous drivers said they have used Cicar ‘for many years’, with one adding, ‘they just get the needs of tourists’. 

Zero-excess insurance and a second driver come as standard which is part of the reason why Cicar scored five stars for its clarity of extra charges and final hire cost. One customer confirmed ‘they did not try to sell any extras. I paid what was quoted on the website.’

Although prices are a smidge higher than AutoReisen’s, Cicar got a higher rating for the age and condition of its cars (five stars), which customers agreed were of a ‘good quality’. And unlike most car hire companies, it doesn’t charge you if you ding or scratch your hire car - it’s all covered in the all-inclusive policy. 

Cicar also impressed with its excellent customer service that regularly goes above and beyond for its drivers. One told us ‘after previous bad experiences with other firms, I wouldn’t use anyone else. Last time they upgraded us for free’.  

You can even request car pick-up and drop-off at your hotel.
